Welcome to Top Shelf Bonsai Pots!
This site is being continually built as an information source and to record some of the fantastic works of Japan's and Europe's most respected bonsai potters. Due to the limited availability of information in the West on Japanese bonsai pottery, I decided to create this record of my collection and those great pots I come across as a learning aid for myself and others.
Many people have been of help in my quest to understand Japanese ceramics, and in creating this site, and their help and advice is very much appreciate. Please enjoy this site of my favourite ceramic artists, including information on them - and various pots from my and friends collections. I only collect pots I believe are great quality, from known ceramists, and that have something special about them.
I intend on sourcing more pots and increasing my knowledge as much as possible, and would love to hear from anyone with this interest. I will also consider buying any quality Japanese or European pots, so if you want to sell, or trade any pots, please let me know.
I also started in 2016 the EBPC, which promotes and supports quality European bonsai pottery.
Thank you

Thanks & Inspirations
Learning about both bonsai and their containers has been very challenging, yet enjoyable. I have many people I would like to thank; firstly, my main & first bonsai teacher, Harry Harrington of Bonsai4me.com. I studied with Harry weekly for a couple of years and continue to whenever possible. He has inspired and taught me so much more than I could thank him for. Another great inspiration is Jose Redondo, who introduced me to my bonsai club, Maidstone Bonsai Society and has also shared much knowledge and friendship with me.
I would also like to thank Lee V for all his ongoing tuition and help. In addition to his first rate bonsai knowledge and abilities, his understanding of Japan and pots is a rare resource .
From the U.S., I owe a debt of gratitude to both Matthew Ouwinger of Kaede-en bonsai, and Michael Ryan Bell for helping me source many of my containers, and for so much information on the subject, including Ryan's superb blog 'JapaneseBonsaiPots.net'; without which I would no-doubt still be dumbfounded. It was an honour and pleasure to have Ryan visit the UK and stay with me for a period, along with Thor Holvila and Carina Jern of Sweden. A week I will never forget! I would also like to thank Peter Krebs, Dan Barton, Andrew Pearson, and Thor Holvila and many others for all the help and information they have given me.
I must also thank; Shampoo of Sugiuratouen , Yorozuen, Toriumi, and Hiraku for their help in sourcing pots from Japan.
I hope you enjoy the pots, and please pass on the great resource that is the European Bonsai Potter Collective.

I have a separate blog on my bonsai hobby. This is at Maibonsai.com.
